Aerodynamic principles and torque generation
Hybrid drive of lift and drag: When the blades of Q-type VAWT rotate, they have both lift-type (similar to Darrieus type) tangential force contribution and rely on the initial starting torque of drag type (similar to Savonius type).
Dynamic stall: The blades may experience dynamic stall due to the change of angle of attack during rotation, resulting in efficiency fluctuations, which needs to be alleviated by optimizing the blade shape (such as spiral or swept design).
